This Conference builds from our Teaching Series and into our 400km relay ultramarathon to form the Yeovil Distance Project - An NHS Staff-led Endurance Project Uniting Against Gender-Based Violence.
We recognise that survivors of gender based-violence are the true endurance athletes…
…And so, we are using running and endurance as a language to raising awareness for gender based-violence and our Partner Charity Tirop’s Angels - to develop safe-housing for survivors of gender based violence.
Dr Jasmin Paris MBE
Lessons From the Edge of Endurance
Dr Jasmin Paris MBE is often regarded as one of the worlds’ best endurance athletes.
Jasmin is a proud mother and the first female finisher of the Barkley Marathons and the former record holder for The Spine Race, a 268 mile grueling ultramarathon.
In this talk, Jasmin will reflect on these experiences teaching you what it took for this monumental achievement.
Jasmin has won races and set records whilst breastfeeding mid-race, is the most inspiring of role models and perfectly encapsulates all we will accomplish, here, at the Yeovil Distance Project.
Kim Pannekoek, Medical Director
Reflecting on the Medical Plan for the Rotterdam Marathon 2026
Kim Pannekoek has a wealth of experience in the medical care of mass gathering events.
Kim will reflect on her experiences as the Medical Director for one of the worlds fastest and most prestigious marathons, with 30,000 people competing annually.
Mass participation running events require careful medical planning to link real-world clinical presentations to operational decision-making.
Kim will provide a practical and clinical perspective, understanding patterns of injury and illness to support more targeted medical planning and improve safety.
Dr Colette Coyle
Medical Pathology in Endurance Running
Dr Colette Coyle is a Critical Care Consultant and for over 10 years has been the Medical Director for the 24 hour Ultramarathon, The Spitfire Scramble.
Colette will discuss the most commonly encountered medical pathologies experienced in endurance running.
Reflecting on how athletes can mitigate these risks, or identify a competitor experiencing these life-threatening conditions.
Then discussing key steps in management and how this approach changes in the pre-hospital race setting.
Optimising Nutrition for Ultramarathon Performance
As the Team GB Aquatics Nutritionist, hostile-environment nutritionist and ultramarathon runner.
Abi provides personalised nutrition strategies to many Olympians and Olympic Gold Medalists, including the likes of Tom Daley OBE and Tom Dean MBE.
Abi will discuss key strategies to optimise energy availability and hydration, intra-event fuelling to sustain performance, and post-event fuelling to support recovery.
Abi Woodliffe-Thomas (SENr)
